East of India was one of Noah’s first ever suppliers – we loved the simplicity of the product design as well as the sentimental messages and quotes on the products. Some of the designs we stocked from day one remain our bestsellers to this day.
East of India was founded in February 1991 by John Ayris and Anne Spratling after being inspired to start their own business while travelling through Asia and witnessing beautiful handmade artisan products in Bali.
In the early days John and Anne would visit their suppliers in Bali every six months fostering strong relationships (telephones in Bali were scarce).
Today all products are designed in Folkestone, but they still work closely with the original craftsmen in Bali who have now expanded their business by employing friends and family. East of India are able to offer sustainable employment to these artisans - who use traditional skills passed down through the generations - thanks to the support of their stockists and the customers who buy their products.
The East of India team in Folkestone has also grown with many staff having been part of their journey for many years.
